Mrs. Jean Hefner, age 98, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Monday evening, August 23, 2026, at Dalton Square. She was born May 30, 1928 in Resaca, GA, a daughter of the late Warren and Dora Keene Chitwood. She was also preceded in death by her husband Norman Hefner, sisters, Jessie Thomason, Flora Stone, Bertha Defoor, Malvia Putnam, Iduma Mortensen, Aveline Franks, Wynette Gazaway, Azzie Chitwood, brothers Wilburn Chitwood, Watson Chitwood, Colbert Chitwood.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Gregg and Shea Hefner of Nickelsville, GA, Rod and Tonya Hefner of Dalton, GA; grandchildren. Austin and Hope Hefner, Logan Hefner, Lason Hefner; great grandson, Hudson Hefner; special nieces, Judy Davenport, Rachel Gallman; special friend, Linda Sneed; several other nieces and nephews.

Service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Jean Hefner will be held Saturday August 29, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend David Peeler officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Ponders Whitfield Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The family would like to give a very special thanks to the staff of Dalton Square and Amedisys Hospice for all the love and care they gave to Mrs. Hefner over the years.
