IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William Thomas
(Tommy) Helms
December 24, 1933 – August 27, 2017
William Thomas (Tommy) Helms 12/25/1933 to 8/27/2017. Ringgold, GA Tommy was born in Mississippi and lived there before relocating to Memphis, TN. Twenty-two years ago, he and "Miss Evelyn" moved to Ringgold, GA to be near his daughter and son-in-law. He was the last surviving of three brothers. "Pop" as he was known to all who knew him was a helping hand, friend, and father-figure to many. He died from a sudden, two-week battle with West Nile Virus. He was an Army veteran and had careers as an over-the-road truck driver and custom kitchen cabinet installer. He had many interests and could repair or build almost anything. He leaves behind his wife Evelyn Carter Helms of almost 66 years, his daughter, Dr. Marilyn M. Helms (Dalton State College) and son-in-law, Lee A. Tubbs (Enviroguard Pest Solutions). He also leaves a much-beloved Exchange-Student "granddaughter" from Brussels, Belgium, Miss Maud Swalens, family friends Dr. Raina M. Rutti (Dalton State College), Katie Sosebee and her extended family, buddies at the Tunnel Hill Barbershop, two nephews (Dale Helms and Jeff Helms) and one niece (Linda Gale Ward), and many friends. Arrangements for Pop, as per his written request, include cremation and no services. He asked that his friends and family remember him fondly when they watch an NFL game, a John Wayne or Clint Eastwood western, or hear a funny joke.
