Mr. William Lawrence “Bill” Stewart, age 76, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Wednesday morning, May 13, 2026, at his residence.
Bill was born October 13, 1949, in Scott County, Tennessee, a son of the late Magless Lincoln “Link” and Myrtle Mae Anderson Stewart. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ethel Haley, Anne Lowe, and Susie Gunter, and brothers, Elmer E. Stewart, Haskel R. Stewart, and Clayton E. Stewart.
Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, a service he carried with great pride throughout his life. He was known as a stern but honest man who believed in hard work, integrity, and providing for those he loved. Bill spent many years working as a welder and metal fabricator at Dalton Industrial Systems for over twenty-five years and later retired from Shaw Industries where he worked as an extrusion machine operator. Through every season of life, he remained devoted to his family and took great pride in those he loved most. Bill was a Baptist by faith.
He is survived by his longtime companion of thirty-seven years, Dianne Nicholson; daughter, April Stewart; grandsons, Chase Brock, Hunter and Ashlin Brock, and Gage Stewart; great-grandson, Waylon Brock; brother, Elbert Stewart; sister, Marie Phenie, both of Lafayette, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. William Lawrence “Bill” Stewart will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend David Owens officiating. He will be laid to rest at Ponders Whitfield Memorial Garden with Hunter Brock, Gage Stewart, Chase Brock, Ross McNeese, Miguel Pene, and Franciso Flores honored to serve as pallbearers. Military graveside honors will be provided by the Dalton American Legion Post #112.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel after 12:00 p.m. noon Tuesday until the service hour.
Arrangements are entrusted to Ponders Melrose Chapel, 138 Melrose Drive, Dalton, Georgia 30721.
