Mr. Walter V. Shipman, age 68 of Dalton, GA., departed this life, Wednesday May 6, 2015 at his residence after an eleven month battle with cancer. Walter was born June 23, 1946 in Calhoun, GA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Bell Petty Shipman, sisters, Peggy Carroll, Sue Waters, father-in-law, Lloyd Massingill. He was a member of the Eleventh Avenue Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Massingill Shipman of the residence; father John Vernon Shipman; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Mika Caldwell of Dalton, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Kristy and Jimmy Davenport of Chatsworth, GA, Brandi and David Saylors of Dalton, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Luke and Marie Shipman of Dalton, GA, Robert and Wanda Shipman of Chatsworth, GA, Bob and Aletha Shipman of Charleston, TN, Johnny and Edna Shipman of Cleveland, TN, Dennis Shipman of Sugar Valley, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Terry Ogles, Clara and Earl Holland, Robbie and James Pickett of Dalton, GA, Janie and Buddy Stover of Calhoun, GA, Sam Carroll of Calhoun, GA, Paul Waters of Atlanta, GA; mother-in-law, Hattie Mae Massingill of Dalton, GA; five grandchildren, Trae Davenport, Kaeden Davenport, Addison Davenport, Dawson Cloer, Gracison Saylors; several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Walter V. Shipman will be held Saturday May 9, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. from Eleventh Avenue Baptist Church with Reverend Ronald Guffey, Reverend Robert Beavers and Reverend Eric Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery with Ricky Holland, Raymond Holland, Thomas Franks, Robbie Townsend, Jeremy Ward and Johnny Waters serving as pallbearers. James Steele, Larry Simpson and Purcell Steele will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Eleventh Avenue Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Team Doc attention Whitfield County Relay at 200 West Emory St. Dalton GA 30720.
