Obituary

Mr. Vernon Curtis Moore, age 84, of Rocky Face, Georgia, departed this life Thursday evening, April 9, 2015 at Emory Health Care in Atlanta, Georgia. Vernon was born May 29, 1930 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a son of the late James Miles and Beulah Lewallen Moore, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, James Myles Moore, Jr., Virgil Moore and Grady Moore and his mother-in-law, Eva Hasty Barnett and father-in-law, Eugene Hasty.
Vernon was a 1947 graduate of Westside High School. He proudly served his country in the Korean War in the U.S. Navy, having served three tours in Korea and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. He worked many years in the textile business with the Dixie Group and later in building supplies with Plymart and Babb Lumber Company. He was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church since 1965 and was ordained a deacon in 1968. He was also a member of the Dalton American Legion Post #112.
He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Ann Hasty Moore, and would have celebrated their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary, June 1, 2015; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Greg Bonifacious; grandchildren, Grace Nichole Moore and Shane Bonifacious; sisters, Norma Bird and Dorothy "Dot" Moore all of Rocky Face, GA; several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Vernon Curtis Moore will be held Sunday, April 12, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Clifford Chambers, Reverend Marty Greene and Reverend Charlie Bagley officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery in Rocky Face, Georgia, with Tony Bearden, Matthew Bearden, Mike Morgan, Stanley Bird, Fred Morgan, Hunter Gazaway, Kenny Stokes and Bruce Cochran serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Dobson, David Planzer, Wes Colbaugh, Rodney Ensley, Tiffani Dunlap and Shane Bonifacious. Military graveside honors will be provided by the Dalton American Legion Post #112.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Saturday and after 1:00 p.m. Sunday until the service hour.
