Mrs. Tommie Lou Amos, age 87, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Tuesday morning, November 10, 2015 at the home of her daughter and caregiver, Marlene, surrounded by her loving family. Tommie Lou was born May 19, 1928 in Dalton, Georgia, a daughter of the late Lester and Maggie Gaston Muse. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Smith "Bill" Amos, a sister, Myrtle Davidson and brothers, Reverend Billy Muse, John "J.L." Muse and Jack Muse. Tommie Lou was a 1946 graduate of Valley Point High School where I.V. Chandler was her school teacher and after graduation she went to work for him at Patcraft Mills and retired after thirty-five and a half years. She was a faithful member of Cleveland Heights Baptist Church. Tommie Lou loved life, loved her family, her Lord and never lost the courage to smile even until the very end.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene and Jerry Cooper of Dalton, GA, Brenda and Joe Williams of Conyers, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Gail Amos of Chatsworth, GA; brothers, Louie and Mildred Muse of Resaca, GA, Eugene Muse of Dalton, GA; sister, Linda Rice of Chatsworth, GA; grandchildren, Scott and Melissa Cooper, Tony and Sherry Williams, Brian Williams, Jerri Lynn and Mark Parris, Tammy and Anthony Harper, Rene and Alan Murray; special friend and caregiver, Michelle Kyle; sixteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life Mrs. Tommie Lou Amos will be held Friday, November 13, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Bruce Headrick and Reverend Kelly Grant officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at West Hill Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and after 11:00 a.m. Friday until the service hour.
