Obituary

Tom Dunbar, 69, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born in "The Valley Beautiful" (Erwin, Tennessee) on July 20, 1955, to the late Jacob Ross Jr. and Carolyn Dunbar, Tom was a graduate of ETSU and worked as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch for 31 years. He was a devoted fan of the Tennessee Volunteers—through thick and thin—and a proud "Toto" to his grandsons, Hudson and Charlie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Dunbar.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Kathy; their child, Alex (Lauren); two grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Hudson and Charlie; his brother, Jacob (Debbie); nieces, Rebecca Moffett and Sara Campbell; as well as several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

He will be deeply missed but remembered always—with love, laughter, and through Seinfeld reruns.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16, in the sanctuary at Brainerd United Methodist Church, where Tom and Kathy have been members for 35 years.

Address: 4315 Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37411.
