Sylvia Daneman Saloshin, a native of Chattanooga, died March 12, 2020 at the age of 90 (born January 27, 1930).
Mrs. Saloshin was preceded in death by parents Joseph Daneman and Frances Daneman Ginsberg, son, Jeffrey I. Saloshin, sister, Jacqueline Daneman Slutsky and first husband, Arthur L. Saloshin.
She graduated from City High in Chattanooga and Edmondson School of Business and spent most of her professional life as a secretary. In earlier years Mrs. Saloshin was active in the community as a volunteer at Moccasin Bend Psychiatric Hospital, Phoenix Crisis Intervention Center, CALECO (Crime Alert and Law Enforcement Commission) and was one of only four parents appointed by the governor of the State of Tennessee to the White House Conference on Handicapped Individuals in Washington, D.C. in 1977.
Her life was dedicated to helping to fulfill the dreams and goals of her son, Jeff, by establishing and fostering the Jeffrey I. Saloshin Memorial Fund in Criminal Justice at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. The pilot seminar in Jeffs memory has become a permanent course in the curricula.
Mrs. Saloshin was a past member of Monday Mumblers Club of Toastmasters International, the first woman president of a Toastmasters Club in this area. She was a charter docent, and became a docent emeritus at'the Tennessee Aquarium and remained active until her death. She was also a member of Duplicate Bridge Club #204 on Dayton Blvd., and a western style square and round dancer at Allemande Hall.
Mrs. Saloshin belonged to B'nai Zion Synagogue and was a Life Member ofHadassah.
She is survived by former husband, sweetheart, and friend, Gene Kleiman; two nieces Debbie Slutsky Callahan and Joanne Slutsky Lopez; two great-nephews and one great niece, all of California; several cousins, and many long-time friends.
Graveside services will be held Monday, March 16, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. from B'nai Zion Cemetery with Rabbi Susan Tindler officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Saloshin would prefer that any donations in her memory be made to a favorite charity.
