Susie Mae "Sue Mae" Smith, age 57 of Resaca, GA, peacefully passed away Thursday April 11, 2019 at the local hospital surrounded by family and friends. She was born December 13, 1961 in Pontiac Michigan. She was raised in Wayne, West Virginia, and spent her adult life in Dalton, GA. She was preceded in death by her sister, Martha "Marty" Pauline Tate, brother, Thomas Deaton, stepmother, Mabel Finley. She is remembered most for her humorous and loving personality. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister and best friend. She is beloved by many. We were blessed to have had her in our lives and will cherish the wonderful memories made.
Susie was committed to and loved her Skippy, Gordon Bolinder, for the past 15 years. She was a caring mother of five children, Amanda Smith-Bradshaw of Dalton, GA, Rebecca Smith and Kenneth Brewer of Douglasville, GA, Brandy Hale and Maurice Hale of Dalton, GA, Tim and Kendra Johnson of Resaca, GA, and her sweet baby boy, John C. Smith of Chatsworth, GA. She had 16 grandchildren that she adored Cheyenne Amerson, Savannah Amerson, Aaliyah Smith, Aidan Fauscett, Amaya Renfro, Jaxon Brewer, Madison Pace, Trinity Paulison, Reece Hale, Zoey Smith, Kenley Smith, Tyler Johnson, Braden Johnson, Devin Johnson, Timothy Johnson, Eaon Payne. She was also survived by her mother and stepfather, Pauline and Jim Tate of Covington, GA; father Gaylord Finley of Kentucky; her siblings, David Finley, Gary Deaton, Phyllis and Thomas Wright of Kentucky, Dana and Tracey Finley of Georgia, Dena and Michael George of Alabama, Gaylord Finley Jr and Kristie Finley, Larry and Von Deaton, Bobby and Rita Deaton of Kentucky, Peggy and Duane Combs of West Virginia, James and Bridgette Tate of Georgia; her best friend Effie Bray of Kentucky; two adopted daughters, Stella Beavers of Chatsworth, Alisha Davis of Dalton, as well as a large extended family.
Service to celebrate the life of Susie Mae "Sue Mae" Smith will be held Tuesday April 16, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday. She will also have a service at 3:00 p.m. at the Friendship Baptist Church in Monroe, GA. She will be laid to rest at the church cemetery.
