Mr. Sidney Eugene "Gene" Mahan, age 72, of Waleska, Georgia, departed this life Monday evening, February 19, 2018 at the WellStar Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Marietta, GA. Gene was born in Canton, Georgia, November 26, 1945, a son of the late Noble Clyde and Mary Reathel Higdon Mahan. Along with his parents Gene was also preceded in death by a son, Casey Mahan, a daughter, Marla Mahan, and a brother, David Mahan.

Gene was retired from the General Motors Corporation in Doraville, Georgia, after working with them for over thirty-five years. He was a farmer, loved his old Ford Tractor and playing and rearranging the dirt around his house with it. He was a member of Goshen Baptist Church but had attended Salacoa (Greely) Baptist Church. He loved to tinker with his old cars and trucks, and to honor that he will be carried to the cemetery in Ponders Funeral Home 1940 LaSalle hearse.

Gene is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Vikki Chadwick of Waleska, Kellie and Bryon Reeves of Calhoun; grandchildren, Bradley McDaniel, Cheyenne Chadwick, Seth Reeves, and Emily Reeves; great-grandchildren, Lillie Nevaeh McDaniel and Marlaina McDaniel; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shelia and Dean Holt of Farner, Tennessee, Kathy Childers of Waleska, Brenda and Doug McDaniel of the Sonoraville community; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rex and Brenda Mahan of Ranger, Matt Mahan of Waleska, Larry and Minneoah Mahan of Ranger; the mother of his children, Linda Brooks of Waleska; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Gene Mahan will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 2:00 PM from the Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with Reverend Wilburn Ridings officiating.

Gene will be laid to rest at the Salacoa Baptist Church Cemetery. Josh Mahan, Bradley McDaniel, Seth Reeves, Scotty Childers, David "Squirrel" Mahan, and Randy Mulkey will all be honored to serve as pallbearers.

Gene's family will receive friends at the Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, and on Thursday, from 10:00 AM until the service hour.
