IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shannon Patrick
Payne
December 22, 1972 – May 31, 2023
Shannon Patrick Payne, of Dalton, Georgia (formerly of Chattanooga and Hixson, Tennessee) has diligently fulfilled his earthly assignment. He was suddenly called home to his Heavenly Father on May 31, 2023, in an explosion while working in Franklin, Texas. Shannon leaves behind an amazing legacy that his wife, son, family, and friends will forever cherish. In his 50 years with us, Shannon displayed a character that was even greater than his stature. Born December 22, 1972, Shannon is preceded in death by his grandparents Edwin C. Lundien and Elsie Payne.
Shannon is survived by his beautiful Bride, Lisa Whaley Payne, and their absolute pride and joy; Son, Parker Bryant Payne, age 11. Shannon and Lisa's twenty-year wedding anniversary will be observed this upcoming September. Parker will forever remain Shannon's favorite baseball player, hunting buddy and archery companion. Other survivors include his Parents, Jerry and Lori Payne of Hixson, Tennessee; Sister, Philippa Payne; Niece, Bailey Payne; Nephew, Mekell Bratcher; Aunt, Debbie Meade; Uncle and Aunt, Danny, and Tracy Lundien; Uncle and Aunt Eddie and Donna Lundien; Cousins, Amanda Meade Johnson, and Bradley Lundien; Father and Mother In-Law, Tommy and Deborah Whaley; Sister In-Law, Laura Whaley Koger; and Niece, Mackenzie Koger.
Shannon was a 1991 graduate of Red Bank High School. He attended Tennessee Tech, was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and completed his education at UTC in 1993. He was a skilled journeyman electrician and went on to become a well-respected Boiler and Combustion Engineer. Shannon gave 20 years of his professional life to this highly skilled trade as he traveled the world working in a variety of industrial settings. Shannon was a meticulous and conscientious man who always practiced enhanced safety measures – especially while working.
May we all remember to more fully appreciate each day that we are gifted as we remember Shannon. He fully committed himself to every obligation and was generous to a fault. He was an exceptional provider and leader of his family. Parker, who carries so many of his father's features, also carries a strong heart and brave spirit. Shannon was a steadfast Father and left large footsteps for Parker to follow in the direction of being well-mannered, hard-working, confident, generous, and kind.
Shannon loved Alabama Football and the Atlanta Braves. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved golf, duck hunting and archery. He was a loyal friend, a dependable colleague, a supportive son, and a loving husband.
Shannon was a member of Salem Baptist Church and was Baptized in the waters of the Coosawatee River as a born-again Christian.
We ask for your continued prayers as we navigate this unexpected and devastating loss. We also ask that his legacy be less tarnished by tragedy and more abundantly remembered for the abundance that his life brought to the world. Shannon will remain just as vibrant in our hearts and minds as he was in our daily lives. Shannon lived big. Shannon loved big.
We pray that our tears of grief can soon become tokens of gratitude for the remarkable life he lived and for his newly gained, heavenly home.
