Mr. Sam Brookshire, 86, of the Red Bud Community of Gordon County, Georgia, departed this life on Thursday morning, April 4, 2019 at his residence.

Mr. Brookshire was born in Murray County, Georgia on April 16, 1932.  He was a son of the late Herschel D. and Maude A. Ralston Brookshire.  Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Ann Mance Brookshire, who passed away in May, 2011; siblings, Wallace Brookshire, Edward Brookshire, Alieen Parker, Mae Pierce, and Onita Pankey.

He was a member of Mt. Paran Holiness Church of Jesus Christ in the Red Bud area.  Mr. Brookshire was a former city commissioner in Hodgkins, Illinois and for thirty years had been employed at Mid America Truck Line.  He was a well-known farmer in the Red Bud and Ranger areas of Gordon County.

He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Travis Brookshire of Atlanta, Georgia, David and Suzanne Brookshire of Cartersville, Georgia; grandchildren, Mason Samuel and Madison Ann Brookshire; sisters, Frances Craig of Calhoun, Georgia, Monnie Kirby, Georgia, Inez Kilgore both of Ranger, Georgia, and Evelyn Haulk of Calhoun; several nieces, nephews, and his hunting buddies also survive.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Sam Brookshire will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Ponders Calhoun Chapel with Reverend Arvil Craig Jr. and Reverend Jeff Cronan officiating.  Mr. Brookshire will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife at Chandler Cemetery.  Roy Pierce, Marvin Brookshire, Gary Haulk, Coy Parker, Shaun Sutherland, and Mike Kirby will serve as active pallbearers.  Honorary Escort will be Bobby Guess, Gary Fuller, Mark Frecheate, and David Pack.

The Brookshire family will receive friends on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Ponders Calhoun Chapel.
