Mr. Rufus Charles Callahan, 88, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, August 25, 2020 at the local hospital. He was born April 24, 1932 in Pell City, AL a son of the late James and Minnie Franklin Callahan. He was also preceded in death his brothers, Chester Callahan, Oscar Callahan, sister, Margaret Smith. He was a member of the Center Point Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Martha Louise Goodson Callahan of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Theresa Callahan of Hayesville, NC, Stacy Callahan of Calhoun, GA; daughters and son-in-law, LaDoane and Gary Wilson of Dalton, GA, Pamela Tate of St. Petersburg, FL; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Paul Mayfield of Haysville, NC, Shauneen and Tony Thompson of Cullman, AL; grandchildren, Zac and Megan Callahan, Kristin and Keith Gray, Misti Tate, Ryan Tate, Adam and Maranda Reed, Josh and Melissa Reed, Angel and Scott Ledford, April and Casey Mulkey; 16 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Rufus Charles Callahan will be held Sunday August 30, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Matthew Futch officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery with Adam Reed, Josh Reed, Zac Callahan, Cody Reed, Alec Gamble, and Keith Gray serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Due to the National health crisis and the Covid-19 virus, masks must be worn properly at all times and social distancing must be observed when visiting the funeral home.
