Mrs. Ruby Ruth Cockburn, age 100, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Friday, November 3, 2023 at her home.

Ruby was born June 29, 1923 in Dalton, Georgia, a daughter of the late Fredrick Marion "Fred" and Susan Josephine "Josey" Hackney Swinney.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Clarence William "Tommy" Cockburn, who died September 24, 2003, an infant daughter, Janice Townsend, a son, Robert Larry Cockburn, her grandsons, Brian Cockburn and Anthony Cockburn, her brothers, James Swinney and Austin Swinney, her sisters, Lavada Parker, Katherine Tomes and Marie Swinney.

Ruby worked all of her working life at Brooker Spread Company and was a member of Fairy Valley Baptist Church.

She is survived her daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Rex Bryant, son and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Tammy Cockburn all of Dalton, GA, Rita Cockburn of Crandall, GA; former daughter-in-law, Sherrie Robinson of Dalton, GA; grandchildren, Lisa and Bruce Suddeth, Candy and Chris Steele, Heath and Amanda Cockburn, Korde and Jordyn Cockburn, Ethan and Josh Morrow; great-grandchildren, Brandon Chastain, Jaxson Steele, Annistyn Steele, Weston and Tate Cockburn, Brooks and Hampton Cockburn; her little Papillon dog, Domino; several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Ruby Ruth Cockburn will be held Monday, November 6, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with her nephew, Reverend Dallas Parker officiating.  She will be laid to rest with her family at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Murray County, Georgia, with her grandsons, Heath Cockburn, Korde Cockburn, Ethan Morrow, Brandon Chastain, Chris Steele and Jaxson Steele honored to serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday and after 11:00 a.m. Monday until the service hour.
