Obituary

Mr. Roy Leslie "Pappy" Tinsley, age 91, of Dalton, Georgia, and formerly of Atlanta, Georgia, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, April 29, 2014 at the local hospital. Pappy was reunited with the love of his life, Mattie, on her ninety third birthday, who preceded him, July 23, 2012. Pappy was born September 10, 1922 in Atlanta, Georgia, and was the last surviving child out of nine children of the late Albert Lesslie and Margaret Melberta Price Tinsley. Pappy proudly served his country during World War, II, in the U.S. Army. After the war he was the owner of Roy's Seafood Market in Atlanta. He was a member of the Sandy Springs Masonic Lodge and was a member of the Yaarab Shrine Temple in Atlanta. He was a very faithful member and oldest member of Whitfield Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of seventy years, Mattie Bell Lively and a grandson, Michael Shawn Tinsley. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Reverend Wayne Cofield of Dalton, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Barbara Tinsley of Conyers, GA, Ken and Nancy Tinsley of Lawrenceville, GA; grandchildren, Matthew and Nikki Tinsley, Jackie Strickland, Ginger and Dennis Pigg, Todd Tinsley, Jeff and Andrea Tinsley, Jason and Rebecca Cofield, Amy and Mark Coffey, Stephanie and Trent Cornwell, Stephen and Stephanie Cofield; great-grandchildren, Lily Belle and Allie Roe Tinsley, Luke Strickland, Alex and Taylor Pigg, Aiden and Adyline Tinsley, Emilee, Luke and Addison Coffey, Thatcher and Tinsley Cornwell, Abby and Bryce Cofield, Tyler Ellis, Chase Souther and two great granddaughters on the way; several nieces, nephews and many friends. The family would like to say a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Amedisys Home Health.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Roy "Pappy" Tinsley will be held Monday morning at 11:30 a.m. May 5, 2014 at Whitfield Baptist Church with Reverend Wayne Cofield and Reverend Bobby Padgett officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the American Legion Post #112 following the church service. Graveside services will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia, with his grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday and after 9:30 a.m. Monday morning at the Whitfield Baptist Church until the service hour.
