Mr. Robert "Per" Townsend, age 83, of Fairmount, Georgia, departed this life Friday morning, May 31, 2013 at the Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia. Robert was born on November 27, 1930 a son of the late Mart Townsend and Annie Sparks Townsend. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Walter " Bud ", Ode, Paul, Bobby, Amos, Harry and Larry Townsend and sisters, Lency Jenkins and Odelle Crowe. Per was an avid outdoorsman and loved farming and was known for the corn he grew.

He is survived by his sons, Danny Russell Townsend, Billy Ray Townsend and Stacy Lynn Townsend all of Fairmount, Georgia; daughter and son-in-laws, Wanda and Phil McIntyre of Fairmount, Georgia, Diane and Shannon Payne of Calhoun, Georgia; brothers, George W." Duck "Townsend, Earl Townsend and Bruce Townsend all of Fairmount, Georgia; sister, Marcel Mulkey of Fairmount, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Services to celebrate the life of Robert " Per " Townsend will be held Sunday June 2, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. from the Ponders Fairmount Chapel with Reverend Delmar Ledford officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Salacoa Baptist Church Cemetery with Dennis Townsend, Earl Townsend, Richard Townsend, Ronald Townsend, Randall Townsend and Randy Mulkey serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Ponders Fairmount Chapel, Saturday June 1, 2013 from 4:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. and Sunday June 2, 2013 from 10:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.
