Mr. Robert Lamar Gilbert, age 76, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the Redmond Regional Hospital in Rome, Georgia. He was born April 7, 1943 in Greer, South Carolina, a son of the late Lawrence Napharon Gilbert and Maude Estelle Gilbert. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jr. Gilbert, James Gilbert, Lonnie Gilbert, sisters, Thelma Edmondson, Shelby Singleton, Joyce Scott, Lois Harris, stepson, James Sanders.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Russell Gilbert of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Regina Gilbert of Dalton, GA, Jeff and Denise Gilbert of Calhoun, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa Jones and Brandon Muensterman of Dalton, GA; stepchildren, Angie and Daniel Sisco of Dalton, GA, Kevin and Jessica Sanders of Huntsville, TN; sister, Shirley Mauldin of Greer, SC; special friend, Melvin Wilbanks of Anderson, SC; 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Robert Lamar Gilbert will be held Thursday January 9, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with George Cross officiating. He will be laid to rest at Ponders Whitfield Memorial Gardens with Brandon Muensterman, Jimmy Burk, Anthony Burk, Preston Gilbert, Kyler Bonds and Chase Bonds serving as pallbearers.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday and after 10:00 a.m. Thursday until the service hour.
