Ms. Rena Farmer, age 82, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, departed this life Saturday evening, December 24, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.
Rena was born November 4, 1940 in Stantonsburg, North Carolina. She was the daughter of hardworking sharecroppers, the late Marion and Lucille Artis. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Artis.
Rena spent all of her working life in the medical field. She worked as a medical transcriptionist and retired as the Executive Assistant to the director of the Blood Bank at the Presbyterian Hospital in Newark, New Jersey.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Paul Green of Chattanooga, TN, and Crystal Farmer of Alpharetta, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Wille and Ruth Artis of Mazatlan, Mexico, and Arnold and Deidra Farmer of Detroit, MI; grandchildren, Michael and Nina Artis, Charles and Cai Green, Jeremy and Whitney Green, Olivia Green, Orvis and Bria Farmer, Arnell Farmer, Candice and Joe Tyer, and Brian Artis; great-grandchildren, Naomi Artis, Lucas Artis, Paul Green, A.J. Farmer and Wesley Green; sister, Mildred Artis of Newark, NJ; special friend and cousin, James "Harry" Harris.
Services to celebrate the life of Ms. Rena Farmer will be held Friday, December 30, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. at Ponders Brainerd Chapel with Pastor Randy Nabors officiating. Entombment will follow in the Lomenick Mausoleum with Charles Green, Jeremy Green, Greg Bagby, Wes Alexander, Jason Evans and Matthew Green honored to serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Ponders Brainerd Chapel after 11:00 a.m. Noon Friday until the service hour.
The family would like to thank Hearth Hospice for their tender and loving care of Mom. Especially nurse Sherry Bean.
