Obituary

Mr. Randall Mart Townsend, age 73, of Fairmount, Georgia, departed this life Tuesday evening, June 30, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born June 3, 1953, in Fairmount, Georgia, Randall was the son of the late Clearence Otis "Ode" Townsend and Wyolene Holder Townsend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Townsend; and his sisters, Leveurn Townsend and Elaine Ivey.

A 1971 graduate of Fairmount High School, Randall dedicated his career to the automotive industry as a professional General Motors mechanic. Throughout his distinguished career, he worked for numerous General Motors dealerships across North Georgia, including dealerships in Atlanta, Canton, Jasper, and most recently Day Chevrolet in Jasper. His commitment to excellence earned him certification in nearly every General Motors factory training course available in automotive mechanics. He was a member of Ranger Baptist Church and the Morning Star Masonic Lodge #349 of Fairmount.

Randall will be remembered as a man whose greatest joy was found in the people he loved. His children were the center of his world, and he treasured every moment spent with them, creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Whether camping along the banks of Salacoa Creek, giving tractor rides on his beloved John Deere, or gathering everyone around a charcoal grill to cook his famous ribeye steaks, Randall understood that life's richest blessings were found in simple moments shared with family.

Music was another gift that brought Randall great happiness. Taught to play the guitar by his mother at a young age, he became a talented musician who performed with several bands throughout his lifetime. One of his proudest accomplishments was sharing the stage with his son, Bailey, in their band, The Last Train South Together, alongside drummer Chase Kowaleski. His love for music reflected the joy he carried throughout his life.

Randall also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson, but perhaps his greatest legacy was his generous spirit. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His kindness, selflessness, and willingness to put others before himself earned him the respect and friendship of countless people whose lives were made better because they knew him.

Above all, Randall was a devoted father whose love knew no bounds. His memory will live on in the lives of those he loved most and in the countless memories made around campfires, guitar music, family meals, and acts of kindness.

He is survived by his beloved children, Bailey Townsend (Hayley Bramlett), Kirk Townsend, and his twin daughters, Sophie Townsend and Layla Townsend, both students at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia; his sisters, Patsy T. Woodward Bryant (Eddie Bryant) and Arlene Kittle; his special caregivers, Sonya Gregory, Frances Burton, and Shari Holbert for helping keep him at home in his last days, and many dear friends.

Services to celebrate the life of Randall Mart Townsend will be held Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Salacoa (Greely) Baptist Church in Waleska, Georgia, with Reverend Jared Raines and Reverend Terry Jones officiating. Music will be provided by Shane McDougle. Randall will be laid to rest beside his family in the church cemetery.

Corey Haynes, Ryan Haynes, Luke Campbell, Branson Mathews, Mylon Holbert, and Austin Kittle are honored to serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Gregory, Jerry West, Robby Holder and Shawn Kittle.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning until the service hour.
