Mrs. Phyllis Dianne Southern, age 56, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Friday, May 23, 2014 at the local hospital. Phyllis was born December 29, 1957 in Dalton, Georgia. She was a 1975 graduate of Dalton High School and was formerly employed at Shaw Industries. She attended the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Chatsworth, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Lee Gilbert and her brother, Dennis Dewaine Gilbert.

She is survived by her husband, Alfred R. Southern, Jr.; daughters and son-in-law, Misty Rhunae Southern, Katie Marie and Franklin Rittenhouse; grandchildren, Ashlan Curtis, Kylie Curtis, Makayla Southern, Joshua Rittenhouse and Jayden Rittenhouse; mother, Edith "Jo" Gilbert of Gainesville, FL; sisters, Wylene Edge and Shelia Nations both of Gainesville, FL; several nieces and nephews.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
