Obituary

Mr. Luther Paul Johnson age 91, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Friday November 15, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and friends. Paul was born December 18, 1927 in Marion County, Alabama, a son of the late William Claude and Beulah Viola Nancy Green Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene and Claude Page, Bessie and Cecil Brewer, Fannie and Pete Prater and Lucille Stafford, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Lee and Lela Johnson, William J. Johnson, Walter and Margaret Johnson.
Paul was an active member of Temple Baptist Church and enjoyed visiting the sick and shut-in members. He lived his faith through his witnessing and generosity. Paul loved gardening and loved to share his vegetables with those in need. His green thumb allowed him to add beauty to his lawn in every season. He loved deer hunting and quail hunting and loved to share stories of his hunting trips. He loved his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their sporting events. He was retired from Texture-Tex.
He is survived by his devoted wife of seventy-two years, Helen Elizabeth Bennett Johnson of the residence; daughters and son-in-law, Sheila and Daryl Keeter of Chatsworth, GA, and Janis Leigh Keener of Dalton, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Paul Neal and Michelle "Dee" Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; sister Evelyn Hamby of Tifton, GA; sister-in-law, Velma Johnson of Dalton, GA; brother-in-law, Gordon Stafford of Resaca, GA; grandchildren, Michelle Dawn and Eric Barr, Shawn and Cathy Keeter, Erin Watson, Tom Keener, and Tiffany Cochran; great-grandchildren, Victoria Barr, Bronson Barr, Isaac Watson, Eion Keener, Jennifer and Josh Meeks, Mallory Cochran, Ethan and Claudia Cochran, Payton Cochran, Peter Cochran, Madison Cochran and Caleb Cochran; great-great-grandchildren, Wyatt Roberts, Emma Crawford and twins, Eloise and Oliver Meeks: special friends, Don and Susan Pelfrey; several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Paul Johnson will be held Monday, November 18, 2919 at 2:00 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church with Reverend Brett Yaeger officiating. He will be laid to rest at Ponders Whitfield Memorial Gardens with his grandsons, great-grandsons and Don Pelfrey serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday and after 12:00 p.m. noon Monday at Temple Baptist Church until the service hour.
Flowers will be accepted or donations made be made to Temple Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
