Mr. Paul Daniel Evans, Sr., age 88, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life on Tuesday morning, November 5, 2024, at Royal Oaks, surrounded by his loving family. Paul was born on March 26, 1936, in Amherst, Virginia, a child of Howard Anderson Evans and Ada Franklin Taylor Evans. He was the last surviving sibling of a large and devoted family, having been preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Aubrey Earl Evans, Edwards Wade Evans, Howard Franklin Evans, Tolliver Davis Evans, Oliver King (Louise) Evans, George Taylor Evans, Margaret Kathaleen Evans, Clyde Anderson (Mable) Evans, Sr., Doris Turie (Herman) Mays, Charlie (Mae) Evans, and Joseph Marion (Geraline) Evans.
At just six years old, Paul's life took a challenging turn when he lost his father. From a young age, he took on responsibilities to help his family, displaying a deep sense of duty and resilience. At seventeen, he began working with the railroad, embarking on a career that would span over forty years. He retired as a proud conductor with Norfolk Southern, carrying with him a legacy of hard work and dedication. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt.
Paul's life was also marked by his deep and unwavering love for his family. He married the love of his life, Rebecca "Becky" Craft Evans, and they shared sixty-three wonderful years together. As a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Paul's warmth and strength touched everyone he met. He is survived by his beloved wife, Becky, of Dalton; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jeff Harner of Richmond, VA; his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Shannon Evans, Jr., of Sugar Valley, GA; and his cherished grandchildren, Josie Harner, Ashton and Morgan Jones, and Katelyn Jones. He is also survived by his nephew, Freddie Evans of Amherst, VA, along with many other special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Paul will be remembered for his enduring love for his family, his dedication to his work, and the legacy of kindness and strength he leaves behind.
Cremation services have been provided by Ponders Melrose Chapel.
