Mr. Paul Byrd, age 83, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at his home.

Paul was born April 21, 1942, in Scott County, Tennessee, a son of the late Floyd Kenneth and Ella Mae Silcox Byrd. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Bonnie Jean Smith Byrd and Barbara Jean Bowen Byrd, brothers, Clifton Byrd and Delbert Byrd, and by his sister and brother-in-law, Alma Ruth and Donald Lay.

Paul was a 1960 graduate of Ypsilanti High School in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He retired from the Ford Motor Company after thirty-one years of faithful service. Paul was a devoted and faithful member of Whitfield Baptist Church.

Paul truly loved life, and he especially loved being outdoors. He enjoyed staying busy and could often be found piddling, working in the yard, or finding something to do around the house. He also loved to play golf and took every opportunity he could to get out on the course.

He is survived by his wife of twenty-six years, Betty Byrd of the residence; sons, Paul and Maggie Byrd of Dalton, Georgia, and Ryan and Denim Wallace of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Rylen Byrd and Jesse Dallas Wallace; brother and sister-in-law, Milford and Linda Byrd of Taylor, Michigan, and Barbara Byrd of Harrietta, Michigan; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Shirley Moore of Chatsworth, Georgia, Sarah Edwards, Emma Silvers, and Ruby King, all of Dalton, Georgia; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Paul Byrd will be held Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with his pastor, Reverend Wayne Cofield, and Paul’s neighbor, Dr. Ron McKinney officiating.

He will be laid to rest at Fairy Valley Baptist Church Cemetery in Murray County, Georgia, with Rob Johnson, John Neal, Sawyer Moore, Gunner Moore, Park Silvers, and Dennis Theriault honored to serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel after 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning until the service hour.
