Mrs. Omojean "Granny" Bennett age 77, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Saturday morning May 18, 2013, at her home. Jean was born June 4, 1935 in Jasper, Georgia, a daughter of the late Sanford Carver and Vinnie Lee Bruce Carver. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents who raised her, Columbus Vester and Lela Bruce, her husband, Walter Glenn Bennett, her only son, Roy Glenn Bennett and her only brother, Roy Weldon Carver. Jean was retired from the Kroger Deli where she worked many years. She was an active member of the Cross Pointe Christian Centre and loved working in the Harbor House Mission.

She is survived by her daughters, Donna and Tommy Taylor, Debbie Callahan and Steve Williams; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Bennett; grandchildren, Ashley Callahan Duet and her husband Christopher, Michael and Sherri Bennett, Shane Calhoun, Christopher and Avery Calhoun, Anthony and Mandy Calhoun; ten great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Janie Carver; niece, Joy Fowler; nephew, Jay Carver; and many special friends.

Service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Omojean "Granny" Bennett will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Bruce Edwards and Reverend Steve Spangler officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at the United Memorial Gardens with Michael Bennett, Justin Bennett, Shane Calhoun, Anthony Calhoun, Chris Calhoun, Jay Carver and Terry Callahan serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday and after 11:00 a.m. Monday until the service hour.
