Obituary

Mrs. Offie Lee Moss, age 102, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Saturday morning, July 27, 2013 at the Quinton Memorial Health Care. Offie was born April 3, 1911 in Kingston, Tennessee, a daughter of the late John Isaac and Cordie Couch Wyrick. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Osborne Moss, a son, Charles Hollums, a son-in-law, Harry Young, a sister, Bonnie Davis and brothers, Henry, Jack, Ogle, Robert "Dollar", Nelse, Emory "Doodle Bug" and James Wyrick. Offie knew the meaning of hard work and worked on a public job until she was ninety-one years old. She worked at the American Thread Company for over thirty-seven years, at the Crown Cotton Mill, Marilyn Fried Chicken, the Spiced Apple and did private setting with many people many years younger than herself. She always believed in paying her way and never asked for a hand out.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Joann Hollums, Gary and Lou Moss; daughter, Beatrice Irene "Betty" Young; sister, Emma Lou Babb; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. The family would like to also say a very "Special Thank You" to the nurses and staff at Quinton Memorial Health Care for all the love and care they showed Offie.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Offie Lee Moss will be held Monday morning, July 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Susan Tankersley and Reverend Joe Baker officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at the Dunagan Cemetery in Rocky Face, Georgia, with Chris Hollums, John Hollums, Zachary Young, Mike Frye, Wesley Bowens, Jordan Fowler, Guy Young and Johnny Young serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday and after 9:00 a.m. Monday until the service hour.
