Obituary

Mrs. Norma Jeanne Payne Williams, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Sunday evening, June 22, 2014 at the local hospital surrounded by her loving family. Jeanne was born September 24, 1933 in Madison County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Troy Branks and Eulala Massey Payne. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Frieda Worley and a brother, Fred Payne. Growing up in the foothills of North Carolina, church and gospel music was a very important part of Jeanne's life. In her early life Jeanne sang with her family quartet who had a weekly radio program on WWNC and recorded several records. She was also a local television personality in the early days of television, and modeled clothing and jewelry, appearing in multiple newspaper ads. She was a 1951 graduate of Sand Hill High School in Candler, North Carolina. After high school she attended business college and worked for Deal Buick and First Union Bank in Ashville, North Carolina. She was a member of Rock Bridge Church.

She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-three years, Joel Williams, Jr. of the residence; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Joel A. and Chris Williams, III of Dalton, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Dale Bryan of Hillsboro, TN; grandchildren, Grant Williams, Halden Williams and Kyle Bryan; sister, June Bell of Candler, NC; brothers, Delmar Payne, Bruce Payne both of Weaverville, NC, Gerald Payne of Maiden, NC; several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Norma Jeanne Payne Williams will be held Wednesday evening, June 25, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at Rock Bridge Church Stage 123, 123 Gordon St., Dalton, GA, with Reverend Alfred Turley and Doug Jensen officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. She will be laid to rest Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Piney Mountain Methodist Church Cemetery in Candler, North Carolina with Dr. Leo Worley officiating.
