Mrs. Norma "Jean" Cooper Mathis, age 75 Dalton, Georgia, went to be with the Lord, Monday, January 11, 2016 at the local hospital. She was born December 22, 1940 in Dalton, GA, a daughter of the late, Ernest H. Cooper Sr. and Stella Bearden Cooper. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Junior Mathis, brothers, Ernest H. Cooper Jr., Charles W. Cooper, sisters and brother-in-law, Yvonne and Virgil Tuck, Kay Moss.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Gerald Ray Mathis of Dalton, GA, Dewey and Renea Mathis of Chatsworth, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanna and Michael "Fatback" Hammontree of Dalton, GA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donnie E. and Shirley Cooper of Dalton, GA, Jerry and Kip Cooper of Ellijay, GA, Pat Cooper of Dalton, GA; sister, Barbara Wise of Decatur, GA; grandchildren, Marc Mathis, Amy Mathis, Tyler and Kim Mathis, Caiti and Brian Walker, Brady Mathis, Ashley Mathis, Kent Mathis, Tiffany "Alderman" and Nate Gaoa, Anthony Greene, Andree and John McCuiston, Tosha and Juan Martinez, Andrea Hammontree, Herbert "Jr." Posada, Nick Barnes, Merecedez Moss, Drew Wheeler, Lynn Howard; great grandchildren, Caylee, Caden, Luke and Zoe Mathis, Manixx Greene, Raygan Gaoa, Keagan Thomason, Jaxon, Jadyn and Jordi Martinez, Kaylee and Aidan Robertson, Chloe McCuiston, Braxton Baker, Keeli and Harper Lackey, Olivia and Cooper Moss, Emma Barnes, Braylon Johnson, Eli Walker, Katlyn Oliver, John, Faith Garcia, Alan Raby; special friends, Pam Hinds, Sandra Robertson, Julie Clark, Joann Cavender, Shirley Howell; several nieces and nephews.

Service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Norma Jean Mathis will be held Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Bret Yaeger and Reverend Delbert Haynes officiating. Interment will follow in the Dawnville United Methodist Cemetery with Juan Martinez, Marc Mathis, Kent Mathis, Tyler Mathis, Brady Mathis, and Anthony Greene serving as pallbearers. Leon Brindle, Reginal Brindle, Tony Brindle and Randle Hill will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
