Mrs. Nellie Ruth Smith, age 87, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Friday morning, August 28, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 17, 1939 in Dalton, Georgia, a daughter of the late Dock and Rosie Elliott Griggs. She was also preceded in death by her husband Frank Linard Smith, Sr., grandchildren, Chris Patterson, Bridgett Bates, sons-in-law, Henry Fee, Brian Lackey, brothers, Glenn Griggs, Grady Griggs, Homer Griggs, LD Griggs, sisters, Omie Adams, Jewel Barton, Lillie Hamilton, Mary Nell Griggs, Birtie Manis.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Frank Smith Jr. and Angie Smith of Dalton, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa Fee of Dalton, GA, Laura and Tony Quinn of Rocky Face, GA, Tammy Lackey of Chatsworth, GA; brother and sister-in-law, James and Wanda Griggs of Eton, GA; grandchildren, Ronnie Bates, Cecily Maggard(Seth), Brandon Dalton(Tessa), Dustin Lackey(Nicole), Kaylee Silvers; great grandchildren, Nicole Bates, Shane Patterson(Bethany), Brisies Bates, Adilyn Tapia, Aiden Rogers, Arabella Rogers, Chloe Maggard, Hadley Dalton, Nash Maggard; great great grandchild, Rae Rae, Lulu, Emmy; several nieces and nephews.

Service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Nellie Ruth Smith will be held Monday August 31, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. from Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Gary Jarrett officiating. Interment will follow in the Full Bible Trinity Free Church Cemetery with Ronnie Bates, Brandon Dalton, Dustin Lackey, Shane Patterson, Tony Quinn and Seth Maggard serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Melrose Chapel from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
