May 23, 1933 – December 5, 2020
Ms. Minnie Kate Hughes Hobbs, age 87, of Dalton, Georgia, went to be with the Lord early Saturday morning on December 5, 2020.
Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, Winston Tobe Hughes and Flora Pratt Hughes; Sister, Joann Richardson; Brothers, Johnny Hughes, Paul Hughes and George Hughes, Granddaughter, Nicole Hobbs and Former Spouse, James R Hobbs
She is survived by her daughter and son-in law, Tena and Lonnie Martin; Son, George Hobbs; Brothers, and sisters in law, Jesse W. and Jeane Hughes, Pratt and Marcia Hughes; Sisters-in-law, Margaret Hughes and Patricia Hughes. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Minnie trusted in God, and Jesus as her Savior. She was a lifelong member of "The Church of God of the Union Assembly".
Minnie loved her family and especially the time she could spend with her great-grandchildren. She was a Beautiful Wonderful Mother and adoring Grandmother; "Mammaw Minnie" made sure each family member felt very special.
Minnie truly loved people; she encouraged everyone to reach for their goals. Two of her many inspirational mottos of living were "You can do anything you set your mind to accomplish" and "Always consider the poor".
Minnie had been active in the civil rights movement and equal rights during the late 1950's and early 60's. She traveled and spoke with many representatives in Washington DC during this time; she strove for increased wages and increased benefits for all American Citizens.
Minnie was also a veteran of the United States Army.
She retired after 34 years of service in the United States Postal Service. She worked very diligently as the Local President of Branch 1002, then as Vice- President of the state of Georgia in the American Postal Workers Union". She had been recognized, and words of appreciation had been given to her from President Reagan and other officials over the years on behalf of her service.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all the staff of Tranquility of Dalton for the excellent love and care that they provided to Minnie. Minnie loved her Tranquility Family.
We also appreciate the care that was given by Homestead Hospice.
Services to celebrate the life of Minnie will be held Sunday, December 13, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Jeff Wilson, Reverend Jurandon Hughes and Reverend Pratt Hughes officiating.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Saturday, December 12, 2020, and after 12:00 p.m. Noon Sunday until the service hour.
Minnie Hobbs will be laid to rest immediately following the funeral service at Little Prospect Memorial Grounds, Prater Mill Road, Dalton, Georgia, with her family and close friends serving as pallbearers.
Due to the National health crisis and the Covid-19 virus, masks must be worn properly at all times and social distancing must be observed when visiting the funeral home.
