Mr. Michael David "Mike" Cowan, age 65, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Saturday morning, April 3, 2021 at his home. Mike was born March 4, 1956 in Altus, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his father, James Riley Cowan and a brother, James "Jim" Cowan.
Mike proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and proudly served the citizens of Whitfield County for three terms on the Whitfield County Board of Commissioners. He was a member of the Tunnel Hill Masonic Lodge #202.
Mike is survived by his loving wife, Selina Sloane Cowan of the residence; daughters and son-in-law, Brianna Sabat of Canton, GA, Shana and Jeff Jamrok of Ijamsville, MD; sons and daughters-in-law, Sonny and Linda Cowan of Holly Springs, NC, Zachary and Jillian Lama also of Holly Springs, NC, and Hunter and Angie Lama of Little Rock, AR; mother, Mrs. Annell Cowan; brother, Clint Cowan both of Tunnel Hill, GA; grandchildren, Andrew and Tiffany Duarte, Tyler Cowan, Loyuer Cowan, Lakelan Cowan, Stina Cowan, Landon Gosnell, Jay Sabat, Tanner Brooks, Thorin Jamrok, Tove Jamrok and Caleb Lama; great-grandchild, Castiel Duarte; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eric Sloane, Qudie and Gary Whaley all of Dalton, GA, and Jay Josko of Jupiter, FL; several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Michael David "Mike" Cowan will be held Friday, April 9, 2021 at 1:00 o'clock p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Stan Lester, Mike Babb, Craig Hankins and Jeremy Hill officiating. He will be laid to rest with his family at Tunnel Hill City Cemetery with Sonny Cowan, Tyler Cowan, Zachary Lama, Hunter Lama, Eric Sloane, Jeremy Hill, Steve Ruttledge, Butch Willis, Jason Cowan, and Craig Hankins honored to serve as pallbearers. American Legion Post #112 will handle the military rites.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday and after 10:00 a.m. Friday until the service hour.
Due to the national health crisis and the Covid-19 virus, masks must be worn properly at all times and social distancing must be observed when visiting the funeral home.
