Mr. Mervis Buell Gilbert, 73, departed this life early Friday morning, August 17, 2018 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Buell was a lifelong resident of the Dalton area. Mr. Gilbert is preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years Sandra Ann Smith Gilbert and Father, Mervis Brackett Gilbert. Buell was man who loved to Read, camp, fish and hunt but most of all he cherished his family. Survivors include Mother; Isabelle Brock Gilbert, children; Tracey Baynes (Eddie) of Dalton and Denise Womac (Ike) of Rossville, brothers; Larry Gilbert and Harold Gilbert (Cindy), sister; Charlotte Sanford (Hubert), grandchildren; Jeff Pruitt, Amy Denton, Zach Williams (Frankie Weekly), Emily Murphree, Valerie Murphree, Isabell Murphree, Brittney Baynes and Sarah Womac, great grandchild; Grayson Pruitt, as well as several nieces and nephews. Jason Gilbert, Terry White, Jeff Pruitt, Zach Williams and J.C. Rogers are honored to serve as pallbearers. Services to celebrate the life of Buell Gilbert will be Monday at 3:00 pm from the Melrose chapel of Ponders funeral home with Rev. Charles Rogers officiating. Buell will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at the United Memorial Gardens. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm.
