Mr. Melvin R. Dyer Sr., age 80 of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Monday morning, February 6, 2017. Melvin was born June 18, 1936 in Crandall, GA, a son of the late Doc and Hester Jones Dyer. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna Sue Dyer, daughters, Julia Dyer , Lynda Ridley, sister, Vina Foster.

He is survived by his sons, Brian Dyer of Dalton, GA, Melvin Dyer Jr of Cleveland, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Mona and Darrin Hunt of Ocoee, TN; brothers and sister-in-law, Ed Dyer of Brunswick, GA, Roba Dyer of Ellijay, GA, John and Katherine Dyer of Epworth, GA, George Dyer of McCaysville, GA; sisters and brother-in-law, Carlene Postell of Epworth, GA, Helen Dickie of McCaysville, GA, Susie and James Cook of Ringgold, GA; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Melvin R. Dyer Sr. will be held Wednesday February 8, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. from the Hipps Chapel Church with Reverend Paul Foxx officiating. He will lie in state at the church from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 7, 2017.
