Mr. Maynard Emerson Preston Sr., age 79, of Dalton, Georgia, was led to the arms of his Heavenly Father on Monday, June 13, 2016. He is survived by his wife Roberta, daughter, Sheri Dawn Whitsett, sons, Maynard "Sonny" Preston Jr. and David Preston. He will be remembered by his wife of 54 years as the sweetest, kindest, most intelligent, and wittiest man on earth and by his children and grandchildren as a loving, guiding light at a wicked time in this world. He will also be remembered for his letters to the editor in this newspaper regarding many causes in which he was relentless and passionate, including creationism, and abortion. In the last years of his life, if you were eating lunch at a local restaurant in Dalton, and an elderly man with a cane came up to you and asked "Did you know that Jesus is coming soon?" That was Maynard, and he also asked "Are you ready". That was one of his passions, to let everyone know that time is drawing short.

Memorial services to celebrate the life of Mr. Maynard E. Preston Sr. will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Happy Valley Missionary Baptist Church with Sam Palmer officiating.
