Obituary

Mr. Max Baker, age 86, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Friday morning, April 17, 2026, at his home.

Max was born February 15, 1940, in Cassville, Pennsylvania, the last surviving child of the late John Carlton and Edna Cleo Brodbeck Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Sharon Jean Erwin Baker, who passed away July 25, 2022; his son-in-law, Richard Douglas; a grandson, Johnathan Douglas; and several sisters and brothers.

A 1958 graduate of Cassville High School, Max later earned his Associate’s degree in drafting from Dalton Junior College in 1976. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and United States Army, reflecting his deep love of country and commitment to service. Max retired from Dalton Utilities, where he faithfully worked as a draftsman for many years. He was affiliated with the World Wide Church of God and was a member of American Legion Post #112 and the VFW.

Max will be remembered as a man of unwavering faith, deep devotion, and genuine character. He loved his God, his country, and above all, his family. A true and honest man, Max lived his life with integrity, kindness, and a quiet strength that left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was a devoted father, a proud grandfather, and a steady presence in the lives of those he loved. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Survivors include his daughter, Donna Maxine Douglas of Monroe, Georgia; his son, Blane Steven and Karen Baker of Chatsworth, Georgia; grandchildren, Courtney Whaley, Andrew Douglas, and Whitney Douglas; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Rebecca; along with several nieces and nephews.

Max will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, who was also a proud United States Army veteran, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
