Obituary

Mr. Matthew Frank “Matt” Sloan, age 51, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

Matt was born February 1, 1975, in Dalton, Georgia. He was a 1993 graduate of Dalton High School and was formerly employed with DCI Manufacturing.

To know Matt was to know laughter. He had an incredible gift for making people smile, finding humor in everyday moments, and lifting the spirits of those around him. His quick wit, warm heart, and easygoing personality made him naturally enjoy being around. Matt never met a stranger for long, and his genuine kindness and infectious smile could brighten even the darkest day. He was simply a delightful person whose presence made life a little lighter, and his memory will continue to bring smiles to all who were fortunate enough to know and love him. Matt was a member of the Carpet Capital Cloggers and he loved to dance. I would like to say thanks to our wonderful clogging family who are too many to name, but all are loved and appreciated, and I am grateful for all of your love and support.

He was preceded in death by his beloved eight-year-old daughter, Breanna Sloan who died May 1, 2003; his father, Mark Herbert Sloan; grandparents, Ruby Foster and J.T. Faith, Dr. Herbert and Marjorie Sloan and his aunts, Patricia Ann Stephens and Sherla and Russ Sanderson.

He is survived by his mother, Penny Lynn Faith Sloan of Dalton, Georgia; his brother, Christopher Mark “Chris” and Wendy Sloan of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; aunt, Sylvia Summers of Dalton, GA, uncle Brian Sloan of Ft. Myers, FL; cousins, Russ and Susan Sanderson of Ohio, Liz and Michael Symon of New York and Heather Sanderson of Ohio, Marilyn and Michael Herschman of Ohio, Veronica Summers, and Joe Summers both of Dalton, GA, LoAnn and Robert Biddy of Crandall, GA, Michael Kinnett of Dalton, GA, and Kim Stephens of Alabama; his nieces and nephew, Talon and Natalia Sloan and Sierra and Erik Gosdeck; great-nieces and great-nephews, Percival Easton Sloan, Oliver Gosdeck, Tinzley Dove Gosdeck, and Rhett Callum Gosdeck; along with several other loving relatives and many dear friends who will cherish his memory.

A Celebration of Life service will be announced in the fall.
