Mr. Mason David Burnett, known by family and friends as "David", 85, of Calhoun, Georgia, departed this life early Monday morning, July 13, 2020 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

David was born in Murray County, Georgia in 1935.  He was the son of the late Marion Davis and Annie Mae Pilcher Burnette.  In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by a son, Marion Herschell Burnett; sisters, Barbara Burnette and Connie Long; brothers, Coleman Burnette and Bobby Burnette; and a great-granddaughter, Braylee Grace Charles.

He was a Veteran of The United States Navy having served for over eight years.  David spent many years in law enforcement.  He had previously been employed with the Constable's office in Lafayette, Georgia, and the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office where he also worked as an undercover officer with the Drug Task Force.  For over ten years he also worked as security at Walmart in Dalton.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rilla Mae Cochran Burnett; daughter and son-in-law, Janie and Wayne Hilburn of Villanow; step-daughters, Pam Minthorn, Lori Young and her husband Keith of Calhoun; step-sons, Mike Baker and wife Brenda of Dalton, Terry Baker of Calhoun; thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Norma Jackson of Dalton, Thera Kinney of Eton, Betty and Robert Collins of Calhoun, Wanda and Steve Simpson of Illinois; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Juanita Burnette, Winfred and Dimple Burnette, Nathan and Donna Burnette all of Dalton; Clay Burnette of South Carolina; aunt, Edra Nix; special friend, Walter Lowe; the mother of his children, Barbara Burnett; several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. David Burnett will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 4:00 PM in Ponders Calhoun Chapel.  Reverend Dakota Grogan will officiate.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 16, 2020 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Ponders Calhoun Chapel.

Due to the national health crisis social distancing is recommended and crowd restrictions may be implemented.
