Mr. Martin Avila Cortes, age 60, of Calhoun, Georgia, departed this life on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at AdventHealth Gordon.

Martin was born on March 27, 1965, in Cerecuaro, Guanajuato, Mexico, a beloved son of the late Felipe Avila and Aurora Cortes. For the past eighteen years, he was a dedicated employee of Shaw Industries and a faithful member of Saint Clement's Catholic Church.

Martin had a passion for running and completed several marathons throughout his life, finding peace and joy with every mile. He was also an avid gardener who loved to share the fruits of his labor, often gifting his fresh vegetables to friends and neighbors. Above all, Martin was devoted to his family. He recently celebrated forty years of marriage with his loving wife, Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez de Avila, on July 5, 2025. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren, who were the center of his world.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria, of the residence; daughters, Jocelyn Avila and Maria Avila, both of Calhoun, GA; sons, Eriberto Avila of Calhoun, GA, and Felipe Avila and his wife, Laura Milagros Rivas, of Riverside, CA; granddaughters, Eliana Rosa Fernandez Avila and Patricia Leilani Avila Rivas; sisters, Carmen Avila of Chino, CA, Cristina Avila and Rosario Avila, both of Pomona, CA, Silveria Avila of Ontario, OR, and Marielia Avila of Las Vegas, NV; brothers, Antonio Avila of Pomona, CA, Isidro Avila of Moreno Valley, CA, and Evaristo Avila of Rialto, CA; along with several nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning, September 12, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Clement's Catholic Church with Father Vanderley Oliveira officiating. The family will receive friends at Ponders Calhoun Chapel on Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with Rosary prayers beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Martin will be laid to rest with his family at Panteón Municipal de Cerecuaro, Guanajuato, de Yuriria, GTO, Mexico.

Martin's legacy of love, strength, and perseverance will live on through his family and all who were blessed to know him.

El Sr. Martín Ávila Cortés, de 60 años, de Calhoun, Georgia, partió de esta vida el sábado 6 de septiembre de 2025 en AdventHealth Gordon.

Martín nació el 27 de marzo de 1965 en Cerecuaro, Guanajuato, México, un hijo amado del difunto Felipe Ávila y Aurora Cortés. Durante los últimos dieciocho años, fue un empleado dedicado de Shaw Industries y un miembro fiel de la Iglesia Católica de San Clemente.

Martin tenía una pasión por correr y completó varios maratones a lo largo de su vida, encontrando paz y alegría con cada milla. También era un ávido jardinero al que le encantaba compartir los frutos de su trabajo, a menudo regalando sus verduras frescas a amigos y vecinos. Por encima de todo, Martin se dedicó a su familia. Recientemente celebró cuarenta años de matrimonio con su amada esposa, María Guadalupe González de Ávila, el 5 de julio de 2025. Su mayor alegría era pasar tiempo con sus hijos y nietos, que eran el centro de su mundo.

Le sobreviven su amada esposa, María, de la residencia; hijas, Jocelyn Avila y Maria Avila, ambas de Calhoun, GA; hijos, Eriberto Ávila de Calhoun, GA, y Felipe Ávila y su esposa, Laura Milagros Rivas, de Riverside, CA; nietas, Eliana Rosa Fernández Ávila y Patricia Leilani Ávila Rivas; hermanas, Carmen Ávila de Chino, CA, Cristina Ávila y Rosario Ávila, ambas de Pomona, CA, Silveria Ávila de Ontario, Oregón, y Marielia Ávila de Las Vegas, NV; hermanos, Antonio Ávila de Pomona, CA, Isidro Ávila de Moreno Valley, CA, y Evaristo Ávila de Rialto, CA; junto con varias sobrinas y sobrinos que lo extrañarán mucho.

Se celebrará una misa de entierro cristiano el viernes 12 de septiembre de 2025 por la mañana a las 10:00 a.m. en la Iglesia Católica de San Clemente con el Padre Vanderley Oliveira oficiando. La familia recibirá a sus amigos en la Capilla Ponders Calhoun el jueves por la noche de 5:00 p.m. a 9:00 p.m., con oraciones del Rosario a partir de las 7:00 p.m.

Martín será enterrado con su familia en el Panteón Municipal de Cerecuaro, Guanajuato, de Yuriria, GTO, México.

El legado de amor, fuerza y perseverancia de Martin vivirá a través de su familia y todos los que tuvieron la suerte de conocerlo.
