Mrs. Marian Ruth Babb, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted member of the Dalton, Georgia community, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, November 2, 2024, at CHI Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, as the result of an unexpected brain aneurysm. She was 82 years old.
Born on September 11, 1942, in Dalton, Marian was the only child of James Andrew and Jessie Reed Quinn. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lawrence "Larry" Babb, who passed away on November 7, 2008, as well as her father-in-law and mother-in-law, James Carlton and Dorothy Hyde Babb.
A dedicated student, Marian graduated as the Valedictorian of Valley Point High School in 1960. She went on to pursue her passion for caregiving, earning her RN degree from Georgia Baptist Hospital in Atlanta. She devoted over 30 years of her career to the Whitfield County Health Department, serving the community with compassion and expertise. During her children's younger years, she also served as a paraprofessional at Dug Gap Elementary School. Marian was a lifelong member of Dug Gap Baptist Church, where her faith and service left a lasting impact on the congregation and her community.
Marian's legacy lives on through her family. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Amy and David Weaver, and her grandson, Ben Weaver; her son and daughter-in-law, Andy and Karen Babb, and her grandson, John Luke Babb—all of Dalton, GA. Additionally, she is remembered by her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mike and Karen Babb of Dalton, GA, and Jane Babb Whitaker of Marietta, GA, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation at Ponders Melrose Chapel on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to honor her memory. Marian will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Dug Gap Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family request all donations can be made to Dug Gap Baptist Church (2031 Dug Gap Rd. Dalton, GA 30720).
