Mrs. Margaret Emma Harper Lanning, age 90, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life, Saturday March 14, 2020 at the local hospital.

Margaret was born August 13, 1929 in Calhoun, Georgia.  She was a daughter of the late James Dolphus Harper and Willie Mae Thomas Harper.  Along with her mother and father she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francis Willard "Bill" Lanning; a granddaughter, Brandi Leigh Lanning; sisters, Louise Gaines and Retha Taylor; and brothers, Pat Harper, Ted Harper, and Tommy Harper.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn Brown of Dalton, Sandra and Fred Morgan of Tunnel Hill, Angela and Ronnie Marcus, Cheryl and Steve Coker all of Dalton; sons and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Debbie Lanning, David Lanning all of Dalton; sister and brother-in-law, Mozelle and Elbert Newton of Dalton; brothers and sister-in-law, Lloyd Harper of Buford, Georgia, Arnold Harper of Douglasville, Georgia, and Larry and Sue Harper of Dalton; grandchildren, Michael Brown, Karen Neely, Jody Lanning, Andrew Lanning, Eric Morgan, Jennifer Brown, Ron Marcus, Crystal Marcus, Lee Coker Kim Miller, Angie Strong, Sharon Ratcliff, and Karen Muse; twenty one great-grandchildren.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Margaret Lanning will be held on Monday, March 16, 2020 at 3:00 PM in Ponders Melrose Chapel.  She will be laid to rest beside her husband at West Hill Cemetery.  Michael Brown, Jody Lanning, Andy Lanning, Eric Morgan, Lee Coker, and Ron Marcus will serve as pallbearers.  The family will receive friends on Monday, from 12:00 PM until the service hour of 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
