Obituary

Mrs. Madge Parsons Smith, age 89, a long time resident of Dalton, Georgia and formerly of Calhoun, passed away December 26, 2013 at Elmcroft Assisted Living Facility of Chattanooga, Tennessee with family by her side.

She spent her youth in Gordon County and was married to Lloyd V. Smith, who preceded her in death in 1999. She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Melba and Buford Chitwood, her beloved uncle and aunt Clyde and Annie Ruth Parsons of Calhoun, Georgia and her step-mother Gertrude Gravitt Parsons of Calhoun, Georgia.

She is survived by her loving Daughter, Yvonne Smith Cashon of Dalton, Georgia; grandson's and their wives, Randy and Cindy Cashon of Ringgold Georgia and Kevin and Sandy Cashon of Calhoun Georgia; great- grandson's, David Cashon of Ringgold Georgia and Jake Avery Cashon of Calhoun, Georgia; great- granddaughters and their husbands; Anna Cashon of Ringgold, Georgia, Heather and Matthew Hudgens and Autumn and Joey Travis of Calhoun, Georgia; great- great grandchildren Cassie Hudgins and Landon Travis of Calhoun, Georgia. Mrs. Smith is survived by sister Barbara Parsons and husband Merrill Dobbs; nieces, Dr. Drena Dobbs of Ames, Iowa; Teena & Ed Moody of Hermosa Beach, California; Cheri and Gary Wolfe of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Candi Chitwood of Resaca, Georgia; nephews Hank and Rhonda Chitwood of Calhoun, Georgia; and Ron Dobbs of Calhoun, Georgia.

She was born in Gordon County Georgia, the daughter of the late D.C. and Sarah Robbins Parsons. She was the maternal grand-daughter of the late Stephen Ward Robbins, well known residents of the Lily Pond community in Gordon County. Her paternal grand-parents were the late Adam Thomas Russell Parsons and Molly Reddick Parsons of the Red Bud community.

She spent her youth in Gordon County and married Lloyd V. Smith, they moved to Dalton, Georgia where she opened a children shop. She was managing partner of the The Dalton Children Shop on South Hamilton Street for several years. She later joined the accounting firm of Arnold L Caylor & Company P.C, later owned by Caylor, Ralston & Boggs P.C., she spent over thirty-five years in the accounting field.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dalton, Georgia for over 60 years. A member of the Artistic Civic Theatre, The Whitfield-Murray Historical Society, Past Worthy Matron of Lillie G. Bledsoe Order of the Eastern Star, past member of Dalton Jaycettes, Creative Arts Guild and Pilot Club of Dalton. To celebrate the life of Mrs. Madge Parson Smith, a graveside service will be held, Friday, January 3, 2013 at 2:00 P.M from Fain Cemetery in Calhoun, Georgia. The family will receive friends Friday, January 3, 2013 at Ponders Funeral Home, 675 Jolly Rd, Calhoun, Georgia from 12:00 P.M til 2:00 P.M.Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.pondersfuneralhome.com.
