Mr. Loyd Michael "Mike" Stinson, age 68, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Friday morning, November 25, 2016 at his home under hospice care as a result of chronic lymphocytic leukemia from his exposure to agent orange in Vietnam.
Mike was born June 5, 1948 in Dalton, Georgia, a son of the late, Loyd Edward and Betty June Manis Stinson. Mike was a 1966 graduate of East Ridge High School in East Ridge, Tennessee, and also received his degree in drafting from Dalton College. Mike proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Mike was a true flower child of the 1960's and loved playing the guitar. He had the biggest heart and would do anything for his friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed going fishing with his friend, Tim Kilgore. Mike suffered from addiction most of his adult life and was very grateful for the Carter Hope Center and his friends at Narcotics Anonymous. He was also very thankful for Hamilton Hospice and his favorite nurse was, Bonnie Burnette.
He is survived by his children, Michael and Sandi Stinson, Robert "Robbie" and Tanya Stinson; daughters, Amy Stinson, Angela Stinson; special family friend, Tim Kilgore; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Jack Gibson; aunts, Wanda Sizemore and Faye Nelson; a number of grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Loyd Michael "Mike" Stinson will be held Sunday afternoon, November 27, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. at the N A Meeting Room (314 N. Glenwood Ave.) with Sheilah Cline, Chuck Smith and friends sharing memories. Inurnment services will be held Wednesday morning, November 30, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at the columbarium at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend Michael Watkins officiating. Military niche side services will be provided by the Dalton American Legion Post #112.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Carter Hope Center, 506 E. Hawthorn St., Dalton, GA, 30721.
