Obituary

Linda Charline Batchelor Bryson, 85, of Dalton, passed away at her home on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Charline was also know as "Charlie" to her family and friends.

She was born on June 6, 1938 in LaFayette, Georgia to parents Leonard and Glenette Batchelor. At one week old, her parents and maternal grandparents moved to Dalton. Charline attended Fort Hill School and was a 1956 Dalton High School graduate. Throughout her high school years, she was active in the Junior Civitan and Speech clubs, Tri-Hi-Y, Chorus, and served as Senior Associate Editor of the Catamount Annual and President of Future Homemakers of America during her senior year. Charline was also a member of the National Honor Society.

After high school, she married her high school sweetheart, Marvin T. Bryson, and worked as a bank teller starting in the late 1950s with First National Bank of Dalton, then First Atlanta and later Hardwick Bank & Trust until retiring in the early 1990s. During the 1970s Charline was a Brownie Scout and Girl Scout troop leader and Cub Scout den mother. She was active in the Dalton High School Catamount Band Club, the Lady Elks Auxiliary and a member of Dalton First United Methodist Church.

Charline was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Marvin T. Bryson; parents Leonard and Glenette Batchelor of Dalton; grandparents James Robert and Kansas M. Batchelor of Bowdon, Georgia; Charles Everett "C.E." and Mae Sue Tate of Dalton; beloved great grandmothers May Elliott of Exeter, Missouri and Beatrice O'Kelley of Chattanooga; father-in-law and mother-in-law Marion Frances and Hattie Thompson Bryson of Dalton; uncles, aunts and cousins.

Charline is survived by her daughter, Marlita "Marti" Bryson of Dalton; son and daughter-in-law Charles Tate and Bethina Pulliam Bryson of Dalton; grandsons Evan Tate Bryson of Highlands, North Carolina; Ethan Graham Bryson of Dalton; cousin Louise Batchelor Holloway and family of Bowdon, Georgia; her beloved dog Scout and her kitties. Nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel on Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at West Hill Cemetery (section 15 across from St. Mark's Episcopal Church) with grandson Ethan Bryson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Dalton First United Methodist Church or The Humane Society of Northwest Georgia.
