Mrs. Lillie May Wells

Mrs. Lillie May Wells, age 73, of Tunnel Hill, Georgia, departed this life Monday afternoon at CHI Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Lillie was born on December 5, 1951, in Trimble County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Floyd William and Edith May Rose Hawkins. She devoted her life to caring for others, working at several area nursing homes over the years. Lillie truly had a heart for the elderly and found great joy in her work. She was also a member of North Whitfield Baptist Church.

Lillie was the beloved wife of Wilburn Eugene "Bean" Wells. Their love story began the first moment Bean saw her — he was instantly captivated by her beautiful blue eyes and the gentle spirit behind them. For forty-nine years, they built a life filled with laughter, devotion, and steadfast love, a bond admired by all who knew them.

She is survived by her husband, Wilburn Eugene "Bean" Wells of the residence; daughter, Janae and Andrew Milen; son, Shawn Eugene Wells, all of Cleveland, TN; sister, Patricia Jean Riddle of Greenville, SC; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Olivia and Tony Wright of Rocky Face, GA, Kaye Brown, and William "Butch" and Betty Jo Wells, all of Chatsworth, GA; as well as a number of cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Lillie May Wells will be held Monday, October 20, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Daniel White officiating. She will be laid to rest at New Hope Cemetery in Tunnel Hill, Georgia.
The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel after 1:00 p.m. Monday until the service hour.
