Mr. Leonard James Owens, age 86 of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Wednesday October 29, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Leonard was born May 3, 1928 in Scottsboro, AL a son of the late Albert and Ella Mae Owens. He was also preceded in death by his wife Edna Idella Owens, sons, Billy Jean and David Owens, son-in-law, Benny Chavers, sister, Dolly Bavern. He was retired from J & J Industries and a long time of selling produce in the community.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Vera Owens of Chatsworth, GA, Charles and Katie Owens of Tunnel Hill, GA, Larry Owens, Bruce Owens of Dalton, GA, Lonnie Owens of Cohutta, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Donald Gentry of Spring Place, GA, Jane Patterson of Dalton, GA, Tina Chavers of Summerville, GA; brother, Billy Owens of Springs City, TN; twenty three grandchildren, twenty nine great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Leonard James Owens will be held Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Richard Pack officiating. Interment will follow in the United Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.
