Mr. Leon Starks Lewis, age 80, of Cohutta, Georgia, departed this life, Friday July 8, 2022. He was born February 5, 1942 in Dalton, GA, son of the late James E. and Emma Lewis. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Lewis. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He served as a deputy with the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office for over 20 years. He was Past Grand Tyler of Masons in Georgia, Past High Priest of the Royal Arch Masons, Past Illustrious Master of Royal and Select Masters, Past Commander of St. John's Commandery #19, Past High Priest of the 7th Masonic District, Standard Bearer of Red Cross of Constantine, Lifetime Member of GA Masons, Rufus R. White Council #310 Allied Masonic Degrees, Scottish Rite- Valley of Atlanta, First Deacon Council of Kadosh, Valley of Chattanooga, Tennessee Scottish Rite, Alhambra Shrine Chattanooga, Tennessee, Member of Yaarab- Atlanta, Georgia, Past Master Cohutta Lodge #64, Past Master Resaca Lodge #724, Marquis de LaFayette- Lifetime Member, Order of Eastern Star of Dalton Chapter 65, Member of Amaranth #29 Resaca, GA, Lifetime Member of VFW, American Legion Post 112.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Judy Clayton Lewis of the residence; daughters and son-in-law, Celeste Lewis of Cohutta, GA, Angela and Chris Lance of Dalton, GA; sister, Nancy Lewis Scott of Cohutta, GA; grandchildren, Grace Prince and Caleb Cline, McKenzie Prince, Adyson Prince, Ashleigh and Trevor Martin; special pet, Kookie, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Leon Starks Lewis will be held Wednesday July 13, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend John Tudor and E. Ray Knittel officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The American Legion Post 112 will be in charge of military honors. He will be laid to rest at the Concord Cemetery in Cohutta, GA.
In lieu of flowers the family request donation be made to Georgia Masonic Children's Home, 1417 Nottingham Dr. Macon GA 31211.
