Mr. Larry Roger Stewart, age 75, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Thursday, April 11, 2024 at his home. He was born February 1, 1949 in Dalton, GA, a son of the late Earnest and Bernice Franklin Stewart. He proudly served his country in the United States Airforce.

Larry Stewart was an accomplished writer having several poems published. He was an artist. Many of his oil paintings hang in our house and he gave numerous paintings away. He was a pilot and an airplane mechanic in his younger years after returning from Vietnam.

In later years he worked timelessly for veterans. He got a van for the American Legion to transport Veterans to the V.A. in Chattanooga. He started the Honor Guard at the American Legion and served as Captain for many years. Larry and his dad served together on the honor guard. Larry got permits to have a Veterans Day Parade in Dalton and served on the committee for the parade for many years. Larry got donations to purchase flags to put on Veterans graver for 18 years. He'd put out over 2,000 flags each year. He had girl scouts and grandchildren and other volunteers to help place the flags.

Larry worked endlessly with the VFW as well. He served as post adjutant and then Sr. vice Commander. He loved trying to help these vets and give them a place to fellowship together. He still stayed in close contact with a lot of the veterans and their families that he helped.

Larry loved to ride his motorcycle too. He has a 1997 Harley Davidson BAD BOY and it was his pride and joy. He raced motorcycles for Harley Davidson when he was young. He will be missed by so many people, especially by his loving wife Patty Lee Stewart.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lee Stewart of the residence; daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Jerry Martin of Rocky Face, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Jenerfier Pritchett of Dalton, GA; Latonia Yeack of Dalton GA; grandchildren, Baylee Martin, Hunter and Kila Martin, Tanya and Trevor Watkins, Shandi Pritchett, Ragan Pritchett, Maryjane Pritchett, Chasity Pickering, Cameron Burch, Kallee Yeack, Ashlee Reed, and Ginee Yeack of Dalton GA; great grandchildren, Blaze and Marlee.

Memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Larry Roger Stewart will be held Monday April 15, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. from the Ponders Melrose Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Inurnment will follow in the Fairy Valley Baptist Church Cemetery with American Legion Post 167 Chatsworth in charge of Military Honors.
