Mr. Chesley Lamar Crow, age 83, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away Tuesday evening, August 11, 2026, at a local CommonSpirit Memorial North Georgia Hospital.

Lamar was born January 17, 1943, in Dawnville, Georgia, (at his grandmother Langham’s home and was her favorite) a son of the late Chestley Joseph and Doris Wylene Langham Crow. A lifelong resident of Dalton and proud North Georgian, Lamar loved the place he called home. He was a man who appreciated the beauty of North Georgia and was deeply rooted in the community and the people he loved.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Graves Crow, who died February 13, 1987; his second wife, Mary Helen Johnson Crow, who died July 17, 2023; and his grandparents, Jerry Cleveland and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Randolph Crow, and Bennett Otis and Alma Teasley Langham.

Lamar was a 1961 graduate of Dalton High School and received his Associate Degree from Dalton College. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and carried a deep love and respect for his country throughout his life. He retired from Shaw Industries and was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Post #112.

Lamar was, in every sense of the word, a good man. He was grounded, hardworking, independent, and never one to ask for more than he needed. He believed in working hard, taking care of his family, and doing what was right. He loved his country, his North Georgia home, and, most of all, his family. Those who knew Lamar knew they could count on him. He was a steady presence, a man of character, and someone whose friendship was valued by many. He was a lifelong Dalton High School Catamount Fan.

Lamar’s greatest pride was the family he loved so deeply. His memory will forever be cherished by his daughter, Cheryl Lynn Sapp and Ken Hofmann of Salisbury, NC; sons, Charles Joseph “Chuck” and Rebecca Crow of Gilmer, TX, Glen Lamar and Jennifer Crow of China Grove, NC; his caregiver, John Samuel “Sam” McDaniel of Dalton, GA; Roy and Kristi McDaniel, III, of Acworth, GA; sister, Wanda and George Farr of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Marley and Spenser West, Dorie and Taylor Bridges, Chelsea Hofmann and Eli Helms, Michael Lerma, Jr., Joshua A. Lerma and Liliana Rodriguez, Clarebella H. Crow, Adam Crow, Ryan Crow and Haley Crow; great-grandchildren, Spenser West, Jr. and Henry West: along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Lamar leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, patriotism, and love for his family. He was a son of Dalton and North Georgia, a proud American, and an all-around good guy who lived his life with his feet firmly planted on the ground and his heart firmly devoted to those he loved. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Chesley Lamar Crow will be held Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel, with his son, Glen Crow, officiating. He will be laid to rest with his family at Dawnville Cemetery in Dawnville, Georgia. Military graveside honors will be provided by the Dalton American Legion Post #112.

The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel after 12:00 p.m. Noon Saturday until the service hour. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donation be made to your local V.F.W.
