July 12, 1930 – June 5, 2014
Mr. Kenneth Glen Varner, age 83 of Dalton, Georgia passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the local hospital. Glen was born July 13, 1930 in Center Hill, Arkansas, a son of the late James Benjamin and Cletus Winona Smith Varner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Doris Geneva Buchanan Varner on November 5, 2007, a step son, Ruel Wright, a sister, Ada Lucille Baker and his brothers, Willis Arnold Varner, Edwin Eugene Varner and Lloyd Glenn Varner. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and retired after twenty years. After his military career he worked several years as a truck driver and then worked for over eighteen years as a security guard at Shaw Industries. He loved life and enjoyed traveling around the country in his RV. He attended Temple Baptist Church.
He is survived by his step children, Mac Wright of Dalton, GA, Robert Cloer, David Cloer, Geneva Young and Robbie Jean Wilson all of Chatsworth, GA; several nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Mr. Kenneth Glen Varner will be held Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Bret Yeager officiating. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at the West Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday.
