Kenneth L. McCollum Sr. , age 68, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life Friday evening, October 25, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Kenneth was born July 6, 1945 in Whitwell, Tennessee, a son of the late Marvin and Minirva West McCollum. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Eddie and Freddie McCollum, sisters, Florene Hooker and Helen Britt. Kenneth umpired for 20 years during the 70s and 80s at the Dalton Parks and Recreation Department. He was a long time fan and supporter of the Dalton High School Football Program. He worked for Carpets of Dalton for 18 years.
He is survived by his sweetie of 48 years, Jeannette Townsend McCollum of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy McCollum and Carrie Patterson of Dalton, GA, Kenny McCollum Jr. and Celia McCollum of Resaca, GA, Michael and Tracey McCollum of Dalton, GA; beloved pet Reece; sister and brothers-in-law, Darlene and Glenn Thomas of Hixson, TN, James Hooker; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate the life of Kenneth L. McCollum Sr. will be held Monday, October 28, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Reverend Junior Clayton and Reverend Ben Busie officiating. He will be laid to rest at United Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ponders Melrose Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday and after 11:00 a.m. Monday morning until the service hour.
