Obituary

Mr. Kenneth Mathis, 79, of Rocky Face, Georgia, departed this life Thursday night, March 1, 2018 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Mathis was born on November 4, 1938 in Dalton, Georgia, a son of the late Joseph Allen and Lettie E. Ralston Mathis. Along with his parents, he is also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Aslee Parker Newton Mathis.

Kenneth was a member at the Cross Pointe Church in Dalton, Georgia and loved the Lord with all of his heart. He was an avid hunter, fisher, and absolutely loved being a Papaw to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Dennis Arnold of Rocky Face; grand-daughters and their spouses, Melissa Payne Irwin and Keri Irwin of Oklahoma, Heather and Zach Tilson of Maryland, Tara and Jamie Adkins of Rocky Face; great-grandchildren, Taylor Swalley, Everett Tilson, Elijah, Paityn, and Abel Adkins, Tommy, Alex, and Chris Hicks; with special thanks to special family members, Steve and Tammy Elder of Dalton, and Dana Johnson of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Kenneth Mathis will be held on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Cross Pointe Church with Pastor Bruce Edwards and Pastor Josh Edwards officiating.

Mr. Mathis will be taken to the church where he will lie in state from 12:00 Noon until the service hour.

He will be laid to rest beside his wife at the United Memorial Gardens with Tommy, Alex, and Chris Hix, Josh and Caleb Edwards, and Jeffrey Ridley all serving as pallbearers.

Honorary escort will be Steve Elder, Zach Tilson, and Jamie Adkins.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the Melrose Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Friends will also be welcomed at the church on Monday, from 12:00 until the service hour.
